Morning Light on December 27...

...the day of our 'after the big shopping spree and celebrations... time to chill out at mom's house' family get-together. 'Twas a beautiful day from beginning to end! All but two family members were there. Geoffrey, recovering from surgery, phoned us to wish everybody Merry Christmas and we phoned the Bug in California. She touched base with most everybody in the house!

PhotoTime Tuesday..... Serenity

PhotoTime Tuesday..... Serenity

...a ten-year-old finds serenity

Yesterday he had a full day at school. His daddy had an operation to get rid of 'something that grew in his body that doesn't belong there.' He visited his daddy in the recovery room, thanks to a couple of nice nurses who just wanted to let a little boy see his daddy so he could go home and do his homework.

My youngest grandson... has video games, computer and computer games, TV and his own DVD's. What did he do to gain serenity when he arrived home? He played the piano... Christmas songs..... a joyful sound!

His daddy's prognosis is very very good!

What prompts 'proper behavior' quicker than a police car?

Okay, i have to admit that this particular event was a good will expedition on the part of the local law enforcement officers. While shopping yesterday we observed a wide assortment of sheriff's deputies and police officers escorting kids around the store... an annual event we're told. We even saw Santa with some of the kids! I found myself wishing i had brought the camera into the store... not sure if it's okay to do. Anyway camera was in the car so i got a few shots of the vehicles outside the store. Don't know who was defending the city and county yesterday... most of the side parking lot was a solid grouping of sheriff's department and police department vehicles!!! 'Twas a spectacle to behold!

...another photographic passion

is scrapbooking. I was almost up-to-date until our first digital camera! Now unfortunately, the scrapbooking tends to be done in spurts... usually when Patti hosts a family cropping session. We need to do these things more often because i tend to be the lazy one in this family. With the arrival of my own digital camera and then the discovery of 'Web Album Generator' i tend to do most of my cropping with PhotoShop Elements and my 'pasting' into digital albums!

phoetry1

Not being in the photo challenge game for the competition of it... just because i enjoy it..... i've been unable to resist the 'new kid' with a photo/poetry challenge website! What's it called? Phoetry! Would have started this one sooner but to be honest, i wasn't up to the challenge! Here's my first effort, interpreting the following portion of the Walt Whitman poem offered as the challenge:

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold,

in measureless oceans of space...

Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,

Mystical

La Biblia de Maria Salas...
my mother-in-law's Holy Bible

What can be more mystical than religion... any religion? I'll never forget, as a child, attending an old-fashioned traditional Catholic Mass with my girlfriend. It was beautiful... the Latin... the music... the rich tapestry of the Priest's garb... even the smells intrigued me! I went home and told my mother i wanted to be a Catholic. Imagine my delight and surprise when she told me i was already baptized!!!

I was enrolled in the sixth grade class at a Catholic school the following year... learned the Latin language... sang the music... and learned that the priests and the good Sisters of Mercy are just people like you and me. I am no longer a 'practicing' Catholic but strongly believe that a good solid religious foundation is an important element in education.

Ah what the heck! While i'm preaching... i think it's important to recognize our humanity and respect our Origin... no matter what name we attach to Him or Her..... and as Tiny Tim said, 'God bless us one and all!'
